Greenwood Earns 11th Straight Title
The Greenwood Lady Wildcats have captured yet another TVAA Field Hockey title with their 4-1 victory over Newport on Tuesday, October 16th. The Lady Wildcats are 8-0 in the TVAA and hold a two game lead over second place Newport. The Buffaloes and Wildcats each have one game remaining as they will play again on Wednesday, October 17th but the championship has already been secured.
This is Greenwood’s 11th TVAA Field Hockey title in a row and 20th overall. Coach Ken Houser’s team outscored its TVAA counterparts 46-5 in league play as Junior Kelsey Shaffer was solid all year in the net for the Lady Wildcats.
Greenwood is led by Senior Paityn Wirth who leads the league in scoring with 20 Goals, 8 Assists, and 48 Points. The Penn State commit has career total of 161 goals which, according to the field hockey website TopOfTheCircle, which puts her 13th on the all-time national list. The Lady WIldcats have gotten offense from Sophomore Hailey Wormer (6 Goals, 3 Assists, 15 Points), Junior Kenedy Stroup (4 Goals, 6 Assists, 14 Points), Junior Cori Davis (4 Goals, 1 Assists, 9 Points), and Sophomore Leah Bryner (1 Goal, 7 Assists, 9 Points).
